1. Skrill โ best overall
Skrill is the wallet that does the most things well. Merchant checkout at a flat 1.9%, 40+ currencies, a prepaid Mastercard, buy-sell-send crypto across 30+ coins, and the only major loyalty program (Knect) that converts points back into withdrawable cash. It is also the default cashier at 200+ betting brands and most Forex brokers, and it is regulated by the FCA in the UK with safeguarded customer funds.
Watch out for: a 3.99% base FX rate until you climb the VIP tiers, and an inactivity fee if the account sits unused for 12 months. Details in our fees and limits guide.
2. PayPal โ widest merchant reach
Nothing beats PayPal's checkout button coverage on mainstream stores, and its buyer protection on physical goods is the strongest in the category. But you pay for it: 2.9% + a fixed fee for merchants, roughly 4% FX on card-funded payments, no crypto outside a few markets, and gambling blocked almost everywhere. See Skrill vs PayPal.
3. Wise โ cheapest international transfers
Wise is a transfer rail rather than a wallet: real mid-market exchange rates plus a fee around 0.4%, and local receiving accounts in USD, EUR, GBP, AUD and more. No crypto, no gaming, no merchant checkout. See Skrill vs Wise.
4. Revolut โ best daily card in Europe
A genuine account with an IBAN, budgeting tools, free FX up to a monthly plan cap and strong travel features. Above the cap you pay 0.5% plus a 1% weekend markup, and gambling merchants are blocked by default. See Skrill vs Revolut.
5. Neteller โ the Forex sibling
Same parent company as Skrill and a near-identical feature set, but with narrower merchant coverage and a flat 3.99% FX with no comparable cash-back. Worth holding only if your broker runs Neteller-exclusive deposit bonuses. See Skrill vs Neteller.
6. Payoneer โ best for marketplace payouts
Local receiving details mean Upwork, Fiverr and Amazon can pay you like a domestic supplier. Conversion is a flat ~2% with no volume discounts, payouts take days, and gambling and crypto are off the table. See Skrill vs Payoneer.
7. Apple Pay and Google Pay โ wallets, not accounts
These hold your existing cards rather than a balance. Excellent for tap-to-pay and fast online checkout, but they can't send money internationally, hold foreign currency, or fund a gaming account on their own.
8. Paysafecard โ prepaid and anonymous
Buy a voucher with cash and spend it online without linking a bank account. Widely accepted for gaming top-ups, but it is one-directional: you cannot withdraw winnings back to a voucher, which is why most players pair it with Skrill.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best e-wallet in 2026?
For all-round use Skrill ranks first: 1.9% merchant fee, 40+ currencies, built-in crypto, instant gaming deposits, a prepaid Mastercard and the Knect cash-back program, all under FCA regulation. PayPal wins on raw merchant reach and Wise wins on pure bank-to-bank FX.
Which e-wallet has the lowest fees?
Wise is cheapest for bank-to-bank remittance (mid-market rate plus ~0.4%). Skrill is cheapest at merchant checkout (1.9% flat vs PayPal's 2.9% + fixed) and its VIP FX drops to 1.29%, below Revolut's out-of-cap and Payoneer's flat 2%.
Which e-wallets work for gambling and betting?
Skrill and Neteller are the two wallets accepted as cashiers at the majority of licensed betting brands. PayPal is restricted in most markets, and Revolut, Wise and Payoneer block or decline gambling merchants.
Are e-wallets safe to keep money in?
Regulated e-money institutions like Skrill, Wise and Revolut must safeguard customer funds in segregated accounts, so your balance is separated from company money. They are not banks, so there is no deposit-insurance scheme โ keep only working balances in a wallet.
Can I have more than one e-wallet?
Yes, and most heavy users do. A common setup is a neobank for salary, Wise for remittance, and Skrill for merchant payments, gaming, Forex and crypto.
